RACEDAY SEMINAR

RECAP

On 2/5/2022, we held a Raceday Seminar! We had this idea based on the unique situation we are in this year with buggy during the Spring not having been “real” in the last couple years. The goal was to get everyone on the same page with understanding what happens during Spring buggy. We started with our chairwomen’s presentation, which went over general overview of important dates, pass tests, truck weekend, midnights, and raceday rules and timeline. To keep the people engaged, we gave them a fill in the blank bingo, which some people completed to win free merch.

After the chairwomen’s presentation, we served the people pizza and split up by sector: pushers, mechanics, drivers and flaggers, and media and design for separate presentations. Finally, we had an all team Kahoot! to see what the people learned.

SUMMARY OF BYLAWS

(WILL BE ADDED TO)

Loss of Mass

The combined weight of buggy and driver may not change during the race. The loss of any part of a buggy’s shell, hatch, or cover while that buggy is competing shall be considered to be a design failure of that buggy.

Violation of this rule will result in: Even if the loss of mass did not interfere with any other entry in that heat, it will result in a DQ of that buggy and its entry.

Possible exception: The Head Judge has the ability to rule the weight loss as unintentional (meaning it was not caused by a design failure of the buggy and did not interfere with any of the other entries in that heat).

Reference: Section 10.6.2 “Buggies”

5 Second rule

After the starter announces that there are five seconds remaining to the start of a heat, nobody except the drivers and Hill 1 pushers of the entries in that heat, and the starter, may be within five feet of any of the buggies in that heat, until that heat begins. More specifically, anyone else should be behind the follow car.

Violation of this rule will result in: A DQ of that heat.

spot safety checks

The combined weight of buggy and driver may not change during the race. The loss of any part of a buggy’s shell, hatch, or cover while that buggy is competing shall be considered to be a design failure of that buggy.

Violation of this rule will result in: Even if the loss of mass did not interfere with any other entry in that heat, it will result in a DQ of that buggy and its entry.

Possible exception: The Head Judge has the ability to rule the weight loss as unintentional (meaning it was not caused by a design failure of the buggy and did not interfere with any of the other entries in that heat).

drops (Drop break test)

Each entry’s buggy must take a drop brake test immediately after any race in which that entry has competed, whether that buggy completed that race or not.

Violation of this rule will result in: Failure to successfully complete this test will result in disqualification of that entry from the race in which it just competed and will make that entry ineligible for a rerun.

Possible exception: If the Safety Chairman and the Head Judge determine that the buggy failed the drop brake test because of damage sustained due to interference that occurred during the race.

Reference: Section 10.6.2 “Buggies”

5 Points of safety

When in the buggy, all drivers must have the 5 points of safety: helmet, harness, goggles, gloves and mouthguard.

Violation of this rule will result in: A DQ of that race.

Possible exception: (1) The drop brake test is not properly administered, for example, if the test administrator tells the driver to apply the brakes too soon or too late. In this event, the test shall be administered again in the proper manner. (2) The driver unintentionally applies the brakes too soon. In this event the driver shall be given one and only one more chance to successfully complete the test.
